Learn more about the RNLI & GJW Direct Association plus upcoming Lifejacket Clinics

The collaboration between GJW Direct and RNLI has an aim to help raise awareness
about the importance of staying safe at sea across a wider audience. The most
significant aspect of our association has involved GJW Direct supporting the RNLI
through employee and customer fundraising, as well as sharing consistent safety
information to help the RNLI reach their target of halving preventable coastal
drowning by 2024.

GJW Direct are an official supporter of the RNLI’s Lifejacket Clinics, which are run across
the country at sailing clubs, youth groups and marina events. At these clinics, Community Safety Volunteers provide safety advice on a range of topics and also carry out a lifejacket
inspection, with additional support to teach people how to carry out lifejacket checks
themselves.

With research showing as many as 30% of lifejackets brought in for inspection would not
have worked in an emergency, these clinics can help save someone's life. Every automatic lifejacket firing mechanism has an expiry date and many functional aspects can fail when not properly maintained. To ensure that your lifejacket is in the very best condition, we
recommend attending a lifejacket clinic near you for complete peace of mind.

In aid of this, customers of GJW Direct are given the opportunity to donate £2 when buying their insurance online.

James Kitt, Corporate Partnerships Manager for the RNLI said of the partnership: “The RNLI
partnership with GJW Direct allows us to demonstrate a consistent message about sea
safety across all channels. The support of a brand like GJW Direct brings  credence to our message, whilst allowing us to reach a wider and more targeted audience with bespoke messaging to really make a connection and encourage positive behavioural
changes.”

Jeremy Entwistle, Sales & Claim Examiner at GJW Direct, commented: “GJW Direct are
proud to be working alongside the RNLI and privileged to support them in delivering their
essential safety messaging. We rely on the RNLI volunteers to impart their knowledge and
experience to our customers and we want to continue to develop a culture of safety through
supporting the Lifejacket Clinics and implementing tools like MyBoat to promote proper
equipment maintenance and safer behaviour whilst out at sea.”

With the RNLI and GJW working together to prevent drowning, one of the features of
MyBoat, an online portal powered by GJW Direct, is to trigger alerts for when a lifejacket (or
any other piece of equipment) needs servicing. MyBoat is a free digital boat management
system and accessory reminder service that can make sure you keep on top of essential
safety checks to keep your equipment in proper condition.

As part of the partnership, GJW are also recognising the contribution of RNLI staff and
volunteers by offering a 10% discount off their insurance premiums. To take advantage of
this exclusive offer, staff and volunteers should visit the RNLI intranet and use the
code provided when getting an insurance quote.
